Nonbleeding

• anemia panel is not useful in acute ICU hemoglobin drop
• Iron supplementation not helpful in ICU anemia
• transfusion can cause worsening hyperkalemia
• transfuse dialysis patients during dialysis

GI bleed

• normal Hgb with unstable hemodynamics more worrisome than anemia with normal hemodynamics
• elevated shock index more worrisome
